David
Yeardley B.Sc.(Eng.)(Hons)
Born
in Chesterfield, UK, David did an apprenticeship with Rolls
Royce in Darby, after completing his Higher School Certificate. He
graduated from Leeds University, UK, with a Bachelor of
Science, 2nd class honours. He spent time in the British
Royal Navy before joining the Merchant Navy. After eight years
at sea he spent some time working as surveyor for Lloyds of
London.
He
emigrated to Australia in 1983 and worked for the Department
of Transport in Canberra for two years. This was followed by
three years as assistant superintendent at Australian
Newsprint Mills in Albury. He then worked in a public accountancy
firm
before becoming a software developer full time as partner in an accounting software
company.
In 1992 he returned to sea and has
since then worked as chief engineer on offshore
supply vessels and a passenger ship in south east Asia. He
currently is chief engineer on a refrigerated banana
ship. David holds an Australian Certificate of
Competency (Engineer Class 1 - Motorship).
David
was recently seconded by his company to assist in the
development of new software for the company fleet. He
works on a number of projects and is sometimes available for subcontracting work.
